Do you sometimes feel as if life is flying past you? As if you're swimming upstream and get tired easily? Is life an uphill struggle where you have to apply incredible effort? Or perhaps do you ever feel that you're not in tune with where life is guiding you? If you've answered yes to any of these questions, it's no big surprise. The modern world that we now live in has forced us to follow no rhythm nor season. Whether it's summer or winter, and whether it's night or day, many of us are forced to perform in the same height. Yet we all know that even flowers don't bloom all year and fruits aren't ripe all the time. Everything in life has a cycle. A rhythm that, whether we like it or not, is the key in aligning our life's direction towards long-term happiness and health.
This is why the principle of Ayurveda that I'm most passionate about is Ayurvedic timing and conduct. Whether it's daily, seasonal, or stage of life, Ayurveda has outlined specific practices that we can incorporate into our life to increase vitality and success during that cycle. Let's take an example of feeling morning fogginess, which we've all experienced at one point. In a normal modern life, coffee is regarded as the favourite cure, yet we also know how addicted we can become with coffee and its many side effects. Ayurveda has outlined that spring is the safest time of the year for coffee in the morning, while autumn and winter is the most likely to increase bone and nervous system imbalances from coffee. On the other hand, Ayurveda offers a daily practice which is suitable all year round to balance this brain fog. One which doesn't involve side effects and also gives benefits to other aspects of life. This Ayurvedic option could be: sleep early, wake up before sunrise, and exercise once the sun is up.
This daily ritual, a part of the Dinacharia practices, has been used for thousands of years and is now backed up by modern research. Such as production of serotonin, the happiness hormone, is increased when we see sunrise and exercise. This then equals to less or no brain fogginess in the morning. The best way to learn the numerous prosperity-promoting practices is in person, as we can embody the wisdom properly and freely ask questions.
